What does it mean?
It means that I would like to read so many books, articles and papers in French, but I can't; that I would like to be able to respond eloquently when I walk through lecturers doors and they greet me in fluent French, but I can't; that I wish I could reply elegantly to emails that are sent to me in French, but I can't; it means that I long to delve into the caverns and plunder the literary treasures that lie there but I can't all because - Je parlez, lisez et écrivez en français comme une vache espagnole - I speak, read and write in French like a Spanish cow!
Pour maintenant, je serai satisfait de n'importe quelle petite lueur d'hésitation du trésor que je cherche.
OK, it's been over thirty years since I studied french but I'll take a stab at your last sentence:
For now, I shall be satisfied that it is not important (unimportant?)how little. . . with hesitation the treasure that I seek.
I am so excited; Sam and I will be taking French together when school resumes. I can't wait!
Wouldn't it be fun to read Les Mis in French?
Or at least have a copy of it in French to pore over. I'd like to read Marius' letters to Cosette in French.
Argh! I meant to write:
Pour maintenant, je serai satisfait de n'importe quelle petite lueur vacillante du trésor que je cherche.
Alas! I am a Spanish cow!
So, what does it MEAN?
It is meant to say: For now, I will be satisfied with any small wavering gleam of the
treasure which I seek.
Hey, I didn't do half bad! Wavering and gleam aren't words I would expect to remember.
I feel quite proud of myself. I haven't studied or used French since 1975.
I read Camus The Outsider (L'Etranger) in French in high school.
Garrett and I will be making a stab at French this year.
Your translation skills were very good, Kim! I was impressed.
When you guys (Kim and Kim) start your French Lessons do you think I could study via correspondence? I would love to study French. How great would it be to study something in the original language.
There is soooo much I would love to study. If only there were more time.
It would be hard to study with us via correspondance because we are doing our lessons on DVD, but it would be fun!
I think I am looking forward to this more than Sam!
Sam will thank you for it. Language learning is so worthwhile. It's so good that you, and Kim, are teaching your children French.
